Dear Editor – a copy of my letter addressed to Reverend Hans on 9 November 2011:
Dear Rev Hans,
Today the eviction of the illegal inhabitants in the Handle Bar building, corner Campbell Street and Moffat Street was completed.
The Joint Operations Centre responded quickly and very efficiently, by sending out the By Law Unit to oversee the removal of all the old dirty furniture that was being used to home the evicted inhabitants in the forecourt of the building, i.e. Campbell Street.
In all about seventeen people who had previously lived in the Handle Bar building were now camped in the road. I requested the presence of the Humewood SAPS who also reacted very timeously and created a sense of safety amongst some pretty irate evictees.
The legal process was followed throughout he procedure. Furthermore the Harrower Road Cleansing Department also came to the party and were of great assistance in removing much rubbish.
This was an example of all the departments assisting each other in a competent and businesslike manner. I feel a standard has been set and would like to place on record my thanks to one and all.
Regards
Cllr Jeremy Davis
