In keeping with the changing “Face of Art’ in Port Elizabeth, EPSAC as we know it has been “re-branded” and will from now onwards be referred to as artEC (Art East Cape). The full name being artEC – The EPSAC Community Art Centre.
Thanks to funding received by EPSAC, from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF), briefs could be sent out for proposals and the commissioning of the re-branding and redesigning of the new logo could be done by a local professional Graphic design Company.
The brief specified that the re-branded image should be representative of all artists in the Eastern Cape. Over the past year, artEC has expanded its membership base to include rural artists, professional and amateur artists, and NMMU students and lecturers.
With the funding from the NLDTF, much needed interior renovations have been made to the artEC Gallery in Bird Street and the gallery has become a much sought after exhibition venue for artists from all over the Eastern Cape. Both the upper and the lower galleries are fully booked with exhibitions for 2011, and are already filling up fast for 2012. There is a varied genre of works to be exhibited during 2011, from ceramics to photography, painting and even sculptures made from recycled materials.
Current Exhibitions include Nicholas Hauser on until Friday 11th February and the forthcoming Same Size, Same Price, No Signatures Exhibition.
